I harvested more than what is shown in the photo. I brought in almost 2 pounds of jalapeno peppers. Most of the veggies shown below were used in a salad for dinner tonight. I needed the salad after eating too much of the desserts I made for Thanksgiving. Today we had our [...] Holey Broccoli Batman! And that Marigold needs to go. This is the garden on Thanksgiving day, 2009. The lettuce is still doing great. The onions have enough size they are now “visible”. Another view – one of my favorite. The cabbage sprouts are so colorful, especially next to the “surprise” Zinnia. There are many more of [...] This week saw record harvests from the garden. We were able to have carrots three nights this week for dinner, plus salads from the garden every night. There are so many bell peppers I will be making stuffed peppers for dinner. I was also able to give away a large bag of arugula lettuce and [...] Star’s full name is Celestial Christmas Starfire. She is a near constant companion of mine at home. She likes to visit the garden sometimes, and she is a pretty good girl. She only steps on really small seedlings and sometimes onion greens. She does not dig or try to steal a taste of anything. I [...] This is the current garden plan. I update it as old plants are removed and others sown. The Marigold will be removed this weekend, as it has finally faded away. The bell peppers are still producing nicely and I’ll keep them in the garden as long as possible. The legend is below. This fall/winter garden is peaking and this is the harvest for today. The carrots were a big surprise! They went from garden to table in about 20 minutes. I knew the rain was coming, so I mulched the areas around the lettuce with straw early in the week to help keep mud splatter off the leaves. The effort paid off. I was able to make two lettuce harvests during the week, and the plants still look great. [...] This week was a slow week. I enjoyed some salads from the garden throughout the week, but due to commitments in the evening and the time change causing darkness to come earlier, I was not able to do much this week.
