I took the photo inside because it was darn cold out today. Starting with the radishes on the bottom and going clockwise: mixed radishes, romaine (Paris Island Cos), Mixed Loose Leaf Lettuce (many varieties including Ashley and Black Seeded Simpson), two heads of Tom Thumb lettuce, Little Finger carrots (which look like massive thumbs), and [...] Holey Broccoli Batman! And that Marigold needs to go. This is the garden on Thanksgiving day, 2009. The lettuce is still doing great. The onions have enough size they are now “visible”. Another view – one of my favorite. The cabbage sprouts are so colorful, especially next to the “surprise” Zinnia. There are many more of [...] This fall/winter garden is peaking and this is the harvest for today. The carrots were a big surprise! They went from garden to table in about 20 minutes. The rest, from left to right: mixed loose leaf lettuce, radishes, two kinds of carrots, a turnip, green pepper, with Buttercrunch and Paris Island Cos romaine in [...] The summer garden has been reclaimed and combined with the newer fall garden area. As a result, many new seedlings for fall harvest are among some very large remnants from the summer garden. I let the bell peppers and one large Marigold plant remain. Purple and red dragon flies visited. 8 September – S0mething is nibbling on the carrot tops! 9 September – Something bit the largest broccoli plant right in the middle of the stem and broke it clean in two!
