The strawberries and peas are all ripening at once. A set-fruit count on the tomato plants totaled 96. Most of those are cherry varieties, but the Big Beef and Cherokee Purple are making strong showings. A San Marzano also appeared. I’ll try to get pics soon. I also discovered several Lady Bug families and generations [...] The strawberries are producing every day now. I try to leave the berries on the plants as long as possible to help get them fat and sweet. There are a few losses. One looked like a bird could not resist it and there were beak marks in it. Two or three have been eaten by [...] Late this evening as I was checking on the plants, I saw a ladybug, and had to come in the house for the camera. By the time I returned, she was gone. Next thing I notice is a bug in my hair. So I gently scoop it up and its the lady bug. She inspected [...] I was able to spend some time in the garden yesterday. According to my planting schedules for zone 8b, its planting time for edible pea pods, sweet peas, carrots, and lettuce. A few more things could be planted, but I am not too interested in them, like mustard and beets. I did not get to [...] Below are those crazy Zinnias. There seem to be dozens more about to bloom. Some are under straw with the strawberries and will probably be OK. There is also one Cosmos and one Marigold still blooming. They really add some nice color to the garden, along with some red hot cherry peppers still producing, and [...] |
