One of the Sungold’s ripened, and is now history. It was delicious. The Sungold easily lives up to its reputation. The Big Beef is coming along. If you look close, you will see there are actually 3. As of tonight, there are 11 on this particular plant. The Sweet 100 Cherry is loaded… This pepper is doing real [...] The strawberries and peas are all ripening at once. A set-fruit count on the tomato plants totaled 96. Most of those are cherry varieties, but the Big Beef and Cherokee Purple are making strong showings. A San Marzano also appeared. I’ll try to get pics soon. I also discovered several Lady Bug families and generations [...] Late this evening as I was checking on the plants, I saw a ladybug, and had to come in the house for the camera. By the time I returned, she was gone. Next thing I notice is a bug in my hair. So I gently scoop it up and its the lady bug. She inspected [...] This weekend revealed more lady bug residents on the arugula. I have highlighted one of the ladybugs below because she is partially hidden. It was hard to get a photo of all three together as they were on the move. The whole plant is shown below. It over-wintered and is the size of a small [...] This morning it was time to clear some space for the tomatoes. I have about 4 or 5 large blooming arugula plants. I pulled 4 of them up and was about to yank out the last one when I saw a new resident had moved in. So, the arugula stays for now. I also found [...] 27 September – I was able to clear two rows in the summer garden. I let the three green bell pepper plants which are still producing remain. I mulched another path. I am trying very hard, with all the mulching, to get ahead of the weeds. Weeds seem to grow the best of all. I decided [...] |
